We have pleasure in informing you about our Child Care Course which is specifically designed for child-minding domestic workers.  The course, developed in consultation with childcare experts, runs over 4 sessions. The programme promotes understanding of the needs of babies, toddlers, and the pre-schooler. The course meets SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority) requirements. Topics covered include:

  • Implement hygiene practices for babies (preparation and sterilization of bottles and feeding equipment; cleaning and disinfecting of toys; nappy care).
  • Provide safety and security for toddlers (general indoor safety and security.
  • measures to prevent choking, strangulation, and suffocation; safety in and around the swimming pool and car).
  • Provide nutritious feeding for toddler (preparing a diet for the daily nutritional requirements of the toddler; preparing the food and environment; serving, feeding and post-feeding activities)
  • Practice potty training procedures (Preparing for potty training, potty training and post potty training procedures).
  • Implement physical development activities for babies (understanding gross and fine motor development, preparing and practicing play activities for gross and fine motor development)
  • Implement physical development activities for toddlers (preparing and practicing play activities for gross motor and fine motor development)

The programme is practical, and outcomes based. Our expectation is that on completion of the programme your childminder will be fully capable of providing a safe, healthy, and happy environment for your precious child/children.
